About Davis

The third largest of the ten campuses of the University of California system, UC Davis presents a congenial atmosphere for living and study on its beautiful 5,300 acre campus. Over 30,000 students are enrolled; about 7,000 of these are in graduate or professional programs.

The University and the city of Davis are located in the Sacramento Valley about 15 miles west of Sacramento. Flat terrain has enabled Davis to become the "City of Bicycles" with 50 miles of bike paths. Nonetheless, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountains are less than 100 miles to the east, offering skiing, hiking, and other outdoor sports. The cultural attractions of the San Francisco Bay area are 70 miles to the southwest, and the beautiful Napa Valley wine region sits just 50 miles to the west. The campus and the community of Davis also have frequent concerts, art exhibits, lectures, films and theatrical performances, including many at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
